A thunderstorm brews above Sydney as the sunset in the west  is reflected in the glass panels of our balcony. Unfortunately, the storms did not bring the expected relief in temperature.

SEO Tool for Conference Talk

Posted in work by Simon Jansen on December 8, 2008

Speaking at a retirement village marketing conference last month, I’ve decided not to hold a prepared monologue, but instead asked the audience to volunteer their website for analysis. Two websites were discussed for relevance, content, professionalism and then search engine optimisation.

My take on SEO is to ensure that a website can be understood and evaluated for its relevance by search engines. Focus points are the title tag, content hierarchy and text content. In order to be able to quickly communicate what the insides of a website look like, I’ve created a simple web-based application which strips out the relevant SEO information. The application requires little knowledge, however, the results may require some explanation.

The podcast for my presentation can be found on the Dealers’ Group website.

Just in – Yang out!

Posted in work by Simon Jansen on November 18, 2008

Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang is no more. This could potentially mean the biggest shake-up in the search advertising market. Is Microsoft going to be #2? Or do they manage pole position? Do they purchase Yahoo now?

Let’s keep in mind, though, that Yang remains in the position of “Chief Yahoo! and Board Member”.

Mosso uses wireless mice

Posted in work by Simon Jansen on November 14, 2008

Battery diedMade my day… Mosso, our hosting provider in the States, is obviously using wireless mice for their customer service staff…

On a side note, Mosso still amazes me as far as customer service is concerned. I just wish their servers were that little bit more stable… but I think they are in fact improving on the status quo.

Balmain Cottage website live

Posted in photo, work by Simon Jansen on November 10, 2008

Balmain Cottag AccommodationBalmain Cottage is a cosy accommodation option for visitors to Sydney. It’s located in walking distance from our office and features 2 bedrooms to accommodate up to 4 guests.

We have created the website using NomisPro™ and it includes an availability calendar, which is controlled through the owners’ Google Calendar account. This mechanism allows the client to update their vacancies easily and conveniently.

The website features imagery by Sue Murray, an architecture and real-estate photographer and close friend.
